What a great season it has been! Thanks to all our fabulous swimmers, coaches, and parent volunteers for making this the best Barracuda season yet!
Here is your final Purple Hair Gal meet announcement for the 2011 season!
Everything you ever wanted to know about the meet is contained at this link: http://dhbrown.net/CCSL_MeetMgt/
Here is some extra info:
The Champs Meet is THIS SATURDAY at the UT Swim Center. The Center is located at the corner of MLK and Red River.
Because our league has so many swimmers, we divide the Champs Meet into 3 sessions: 6 and unders; 7 - 10 year-old swimmers; and 11 and older
swimmers.
Meet start times:
Six and under meet starts at 8:30. Please arrive at the swim center at 7:15.
7-10 year-old meet starts at 10:45. Please arrive at the swim center at 9:15.
11 and older meet starts at 2:30. Please arrive at the swim center at 1:15.
ZOO KEEPERS: PLEASE ARRIVE AT LEAST 10-15 MINUTES BEFORE YOUR SWIMMERS ARE TO ARRIVE SO YOU MAY GET YOUR PAPERS AND
YOUR BEARINGS!
Parking:
You may park for free in the lot next to the swim center (corner of MLK and Red River--Lot C), the garage at MLK and Trinity (just across the street and one
block south) for $10 - $12, or on a city meter (NOT University!) for free.
Getting into and out of the swim center:
General rule: Swimmers will enter the pool deck from the interior sides of the swim center; swimmers will exit the pool deck via the spiral stairs in the center.
Details: When you arrive at your appointed time, please find your child's zoo keeper near the big tree in front of the swim center. Your zoo keeper will lead
your child into the center and down to the pool deck through the side stairs INSIDE THE CENTER. THIS IS DIFFERENT FROM YEARS PAST, WHERE
SWIMMERS HAVE ENTERED THE SWIM CENTER FROM THE OUTSIDE RAMP ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE CENTER.
Parents will then enter the swim center from the street level and proceed to the arena seating.
PLEASE READ THIS NEXT PART VERY CAREFULLY!!!!!!!!
To retrieve your child after the meet DO NOT COME DOWN THE SPIRAL STAIRCASE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SWIM CENTER. The swimmers will exit the
pool deck by coming UP the stairs to meet you on the street level.
ENORMOUS CONGESTION, AGGRAVATION, AND HEART ACHE RESULTS WHEN PEOPLE TRY TO COME DOWN THE STAIRS WHILE THE EXITING
SWIMMMERS ARE TRYING TO COME UP!!!!!
***ALSO: Please remember that you will not be allowed on the pool deck unless you have an official SAAB volunteer badge! You may obtain your volunteer
badge by checking in with Mary Ellen Erwin, our lovely and talented Volunteer Coordinator!
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO COME TO THE POOL DECK TO RETRIEVE YOUR CHILD OR FOR ANY OTHER REASON. YOU WILL BE SENT AWAY BY UT OR
MEET PERSONNEL. NO ONE ESCAPES THIS RULE!
CONGESTION, AGGRAVATION, AND HEART ACHE WILL ENSUE. PLEASE SPARE YOURSELF AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW TO
RETRIEVE YOUR CHILD FROM THE MEET!
Specific Details for Exiting Swimmers by Age Group:
6 and unders: ***Your swimmers are asked to stay the entire meet, even if they are not swimmming past freestyle.*** The meet is expected to last only from
8:30 to 9:45. When the meet is over, your child's zoo keeper will bring your child up the spiral stairs in the middle of the center (the stairs you ARE NOT
GOING TO BE ON!) and out the swim center doors on the street level to the big tree where you will be happily waiting!
7 - 10 year olds: Same deal for your swimmmers EXCEPT, one extra ferry out of the center will happen after freestyle. A SAAB official will go to each zoo and
gather any swimmer who is done swimming and ready to leave. The swimmers will be escorted up the stairs (again, you will not be on these stairs!) and out
the street-level doors to the big tree. If you are not there to meet your swimmer, the SAAB official will take your swimmer back to the zoo on the pool deck
WHERE YOUR SWIMMER WILL REMAIN UNTIL THE END OF THE MEET. Obviously, this early exit plan will not apply to swimmers swimming breast
stroke or butterfly. After the meet, the remaining swimmers will follow the same path that the 6 and unders took earlier, to find you waiting out under the big
tree.
(Anybody sensing a pattern here?)
11 and older: Same deal as the 7 -10 year olds, EXCEPT that if your swimmer is old enough and you trust your swimmer to leave the deck and meet you on
the street level, that is fine. PLEASE TELL YOUR CHILD'S ZOO KEEPER YOUR PLAN UPON ARRIVAL BEFORE THE MEET.
I hate to repeat myself so many times, but here I go again: PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO COME TO THE POOL DECK. WATCH YOUR CHILD SWIM
FROM THE LUXURIOUS STANDS AND THEN GO OUT TO THE BIG TREE AND WAIT FOR HIM/HER TO EXIT TRIUMPHANTLY FROM THE SWIM
CENTER!
Final tips:
The swiim center is humid, but it is actually a bit chilly. So...send your child with a water bottle, a few healthy snacks (NO BIG COOLERS), at least 2 towels,
and warm clothes.
UT has a concession stand and the meets are short (relatively speaking) so you do not need to (and should not) bring tons of supplies.
Come happy! Yell loud (although your child will not be able to hear you from the stands, so please try to resist leaning over the railing to get your child's
attention) ! And be a good team player!
As always, feel free to call me with questions! 925-4276.
GO BARRACUDAS!
